Este jueves, la Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y de la Televisión anunció las nominaciones para la 75ª edición de los premios BAFTA, que se entregarán el domingo 13 de marzo, en el teatro Royal Albert Hall de Londres, en una ceremonia presencial conducida por Rebel Wilson.
En esta ocasión, 48 películas recibieron nominaciones (el año pasado fueron 50) donde sorprendentemente ‘Dune’, el épico thriller de ciencia ficción de Denis Villeneuve, obtuvo 11 candidaturas: muchas de ellas técnicas, la de Mejor Película, pero no la de Mejor Director.
Le siguen ‘The Power of the Dog’ con ocho nominaciones; ‘Belfast’ con seis; y ‘No Time to Die’ con cinco, junto con ‘West Side Story’ y ‘Licorice Pizza’. Cabe señalar que esta última fue la única cinta en obtener nominaciones a Mejor Película, Dirección, Guion, Edición y Actriz.
Como parte de sus medidas para resolver la carencia de diversidad y representación de sus premios, desde 2021 la Academia Británica utiliza un sistema de jurado para traer balance en varias de sus categorías principales: Ahora, dos de las seis nominaciones de la categoría pertenecen a los trabajos más votados en la primera ronda de votaciones y las cuatro restantes se eligen por comité.
Esta nueva metodología ha rendido sus frutos, y este año ha arrojado inesperados contendientes (así como decepciones), especialmente en el campo actoral.
En Mejor Actriz, Lady Gaga —quien obtuvo su segunda nominación al BAFTA por ‘House of Gucci’—, comparte la categoría con Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza), Tessa Thompson (Passing), la noruega Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World), y las británicas Joanna Scanlan (After Love) y Emilia Jones (CODA).
Sin embargo, destacan las ausencias de Nicole Kidman (Being The Ricardos), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) y Rachel Zegler (West Side Story), al igual que la de Kristen Stewart por ‘Spencer’, película que no logró ninguna nominación.
En la carrera por el Mejor Actor, Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog) compite contra Stephen Graham (Boiling Point), Adeel Akhtar (Ali & Ava), Will Smith —quien recibe su primera nominación a estos premios por su papel en ‘King Richard’—, Mahershala Ali (Swan Song) y Leonardo DiCaprio (Don’t Look Up), las dos sorpresas en la categoría.
Por fuera quedaron nombres como el de Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth), Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick… Boom!), Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos) y el de Peter Dinklage (Cyrano).
